The beginning half of the If You Could Be Mine is becoming a heartbreaking book. Sahar is in love with Nasrin, but Nasrin only seems to be in love with herself. Her character in the book seems so selfish, it makes me feel bad for Sahar. Sahar wants to marry Nasrin, but it has just been announced that Nasrin is engaged with a man Reza, who is tall, handsome, and is a doctor. Nasrin is sad that she has to marry Reza in front of Sahar but when they are in public and people are raving about her ring, and the fact that she's getting married to Reza, she seems to be enjoying the attention. Ali is Sahars cousin, he invites her to one of his parties, where a woman parveen escorts her to. Sahar learns at the party that Parveen is a transexual. Sahar is now getting the idea that she can too, become a transexual to be with Nasrin. Parveen and Sahar meet up to talk, with Sahar having the intention of asking Parveen about being a transexual. Sahar convinces Parveen that she is transexual, when inside she is just lesbian. I like that this book is showing the difference between transsexuality, and homosexuality. How the thought process is different.
